Nauti Nails

I was feeling a little nauti this week. As a nod to my love for all things nautical, I decided to rock the vibe of boats, sea, and the Hamptons on my nails.

Its not too hard to do, although you kind of need a steady hand—I’m not gonna lie! But the outcome is so worth it.

What you’ll need: navy blue polish ( I used Essie “mezmerised”), white polish, red polish, and clear top coat polish.

Tools: a paintbrush and toothpick. You could also buy one those nail polish pens, I’ve seen them at Sephora and Walgreens. That could actually be way easier than painting.

1. Start by painting each nail with a base of Navy Blue.

2. Wait until base is dry and then add two white horizontal stripes across each nail. Go slow and steady. PRO TIP! It helps it your hands are resting on something solid. You could prop your painting hand on a sturdy book to keep it steady.

3. Wait until dry.

4. Now dip the tip of a toothpick your red polish and draw your hearts.

5. Cover with a top coat of clear polish and your all set to sail!

Going light for Summer with VE Salon

If you’ve been thinking about changing up your hair color as Winter ends, we have a great blog for you featuring my beautiful Mom. Both of us have had jet black hair for years, and she decided she needed a change but didn’t want to fry her hair with harsh bleaches. Shari at VE Salon- an amazing color master has been working with my Mom for a few months ensuring that there was no unnecessary processes and that she had the look she had in her head with out loosing hair to breakage.

Shari used low lights, high lights, and ended the look with a Brazilian Blow out! My Mom was glowing from head to toe and I can see that she’s so happy she decided to go light after all these years. And the look on my Dad’s face didn’t hurt either, LOL!

The pictures speak for themselves, but make sure you check out VE Salon on Facebook as they gave away a Keratin treatment and color to a random fan in December and you never know when the next winner will be announced!

Double Take: Cameron Diaz Chic in White at Paris Fashion Week 2012

I hate to say it, but I’ve been underwhelmed by the 2012 “Awards Season” fashion thus far. Angelina Jolie in a black gown. Sophia Vergara in a curve hugging mermaid dress. Zooey Deschanel looking quirky and cute. I love all of these gorgeous ladies, but the redundancy of it all forced me to jump all the way across the pond for this week’s celebrity style to steal – In fact I almost jumped in. But luckily my fashion sense landed in the middle of Paris, where fashion was happening all around the city and Cameron Diaz was proving that white in the winter is the new black with two different to-die-for white dresses.

The key? Pair the looks with a black or nude shoe like Cameron did and take it easy on the accessories to let the detail in the dress do the talking. For a modern take on lace pair it with minimal makeup and undone hair. You’ll look sweet and fresh and not like a Stepford Wife. Pair the peplum with a but more makeup and sleek hair a little to look chic and sophisticated. That’s what I call white done right.
