How to Guide: Professional Attire
Professional clothing is a difficult task to tackle for women. For a man, it’s pretty simple–you wear a suit. But for a woman, it is not that easy. It is difficult to find items that look both attractive and stylish, while being affordable and appropriate. I have seen some pretty bad things in my days working in an office. Whether it be saggy slacks, running shoes, or a frumpy suit, I’ve seen it all. I’ve even seen the occasional Guess boustier on “casual” Friday.
Here are some tips that will help you to create a closet to fit the working woman:
First, find slacks that fit you. Slacks should be straight, not tapered. Please avoid pleats at all costs. Your slacks should fit you at the waist, and should not go above your waist line (unless you’re goi [...] Continue reading →
J Lo’s Knockout Neon Number
It’s looking like Ms. Jennifer Lopez is a big fan of neon for Spring 2012, and guess what? I am too. From the hot pink, slit gown she was spotted in on American Idol to the bright yellow number below that she wore, no rocked, below, she is taking the trend to the next level. And she’s enlisted the help of a man named Michael Kors, the king of the brightest and best neon’s for the season.
Brights are a must for spring, and there are many ways to wear them even if you’re not bold enough to wear a neon dress and pump like Jennifer. Try them on the bottom as skinny bright denim with a white tee or wear them as shoe or accessory for a pop of color. Even a bright belt or earring will put you right on track to be the brightest and best.

Fall Hairstyle Trends
With New York Fashion Week coming to an end, there was an array of trends to inspire us all during the fall. My personal favorite was seeing the transition of the summer to fall hairstyles and determining how to create them into a more “Real Style” wearable sense. Luckily, this year the trend is SIMPLE. I’m sure you have all have heard the word “less is more” and that was the focus for the fall. There were lots of beautiful hairstyles seen in fashion shows by Michael Kors, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Alberta Ferretti, but there were three main hairstyles that I found to be best for the fall and easier to emulate.
Top Three Fall Hairstyle Trends:
*Messy Bun – According to Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals global creative director, who created the hairstyle [...] Continue reading →
How to Wear Spring’s Hottest Denim Trends
You know how they say every fashion trend is bound to repeat itself? Well, this spring that saying is definitely true. The 70’s are back with a vengeance and the Bohemian trend is huge again! With that we are seeing flare, trouser, and wide leg jeans from every denim designer. From Citizens, William Rast, and Habitual Denim, to more moderately priced brands like H&M and Vigoss, the Boho look is the hottest trend (again!) for spring and summer. Although bootcut, flares, wide legs, and trouser jeans all flare out below the knee, each style is slightly different. The bootcut has the slightest flare below the knee. Flares can vary from a slight flare to a super flare. Wide legs are cut wider through the hip and thigh and even wider below the knee. Trousers are cut slightly slimmer than a [...] Continue reading →
Worn-Out Fashion Terms
Looks like we got it right with our name change!
Source: nytimes.com
LEAVE it to fashionistas to try on new buzzwords like they’re going out of style. Whether it was our bromance with heritage brands, or the shellacking that some collaborations took, 2010 saw no shortage of P.R.-driven catchphrases and trendy terms. As with all fads, it’s time to put some to rest.
Couture: Calling something “couture” doesn’t make it hand-sewn or high class. Yet the word popped up everywhere last year, from discount Web sites to Canal Street pushcarts. It’s even uttered repeatedly on HSN and QVC to describe handbags, dresses and almost anything else. You can trust that the rayon and polyester cape selling for $49.95 was not hand-stitched by petite seamstresses in a Parisian atelier.

'Runway' stars, Siriano kick off NY Fashion Week
NEW YORK — New York Fashion Week brought its cutting-edge style uptown on Thursday, opening its spring-collection previews in a new location at Lincoln Center.
Gone are the tents at Bryant Park where hundreds of designers had launched runways since 1993. Instead, an estimated 100,000 buyers, editors, stylists and celebrities will visit the new home of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
While most shows will still be in tents, located just southwest of the landmark fountain that usually welcomes opera and ballet lovers, the facilities (and the faux marble facade) have a feeling of permanence.
It was time for fashion to take its place at a New York institution of fine arts, said Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former Vogue employee who now is serving as Lincoln Center’s liaison to t [...] Continue reading →
Project Runway Season 8 Premiere
We here at TBAF watch Project Runway religiously, to say the least. Upon meeting and interviewing Tim Gunn, host of the hit Lifetime show, we fell even more in love, if that were even possible. Last night was the premiere episode of the 8th season of the show. Here is a recap of all that look place, and warning—spoiler alert!
On the season premiere of Project Runway, 17 designers gathered from all over the country to compete for a chance to be the winning designer of season 8. The winner of the Project Runway receives $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel to create his/her own vision and run his/her business, and the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection on P [...] Continue reading →
