CFS- Magdalena Trever

Maggie Trever is the designer behind well known SF knit swimwear brand Magdalena Trever. Her line combines fun and flirty colors, high quality yarn, richly adorned trims and beading, and a sexy point of view. Maggie is an Academy of Art graduate, and couldn’t be more excited to be showing at CFS 2011. Last year Maggie’s designs made a huge splash at CFS 2010, and she has only gotten bigger ever since.

1. How are you involved in CFS?I am showing my 2012 collection this year at CFS.
It is all knit swimwear line with all kinds of fun and flirty embellishments.

2. How did you come to get involved?
I got involved last year when showing my line in CFS 2010. I also have worked very closely over that year until now with the show producer Thom Scher who has helped me develop and grow my brand.

3. What are you most excited about for this year’s show?
I am so excited to show my line. To me its my best most cohesive and well thought out collection I have ever done. Its a collection of 18 looks!

4. What is your fashion inspiration?
My inspiration comes a lot from the colors and textures of my materials. I am a huge fan of unique color pairing and letting my creativity flow as I am inspired from the world and nature around me.

5. What do you love most about the fashion industry?
I love the whole freedom of artistic value. I feel now it’s a big part of fashion. Its no longer just high end clothing, but today it’s a statement which makes up our fashion industry.

6. Favorite personal fashion-related memory?
When Thom and I saw Gretchen Rossi wearing my suit in US weekly hahaha. It was exciting and felt like a nice accomplishment. She also looks amazing in it! We renamed the bikini “The Gretchen”!

7. What is your favorite local shopping spot?
I really like  SF Wonderland in the mission. The store owner Irene loves to support artists and fashion designers across the country in that store and I find that really amazing and such a great outlet for those who are just starting out and want to break into selling there designs or art for  retail.

8. If you could change one thing in the fashion industry, what would it be?
I am not sure if I would change anything because with anything it is a struggle. Cream always rises to the top and I truly believe the harder you work the luckier you get.

9. In five years where do you see yourself?
I see myself hopefully expanding from swimwear to other aspects of fashion. I am going to really put all my energy first into my swimwear company before branching out. I have interest in so many field of this industry. I guess in 5 years I would have to say I see my self having a very diverse company that is known first for the swimwear and then for all the other adventures life throws my way!

10. Why should people come to CFS 2011?
To see my brand new collection of course! Its going to be an amazing night of fashion, fun, and giving back.

Project Pink – Reader Inbox

When I first heard about the Project Pink fashion show put on by The Bay Area Fashion Stylist I was super excited.  I’ve been wanting to meet the beautiful Hasti, for quite some time now, but my schedule is insane making it impossible thus far.  With plenty of notice, and a hell of an excuse (it was my 45th birthday), I booked my tickets and told my hubs we had a date. Working from my home office doesn’t give me a lot of excuses to put on the stilettos and a LBD too often, so I was thrilled when I had the chance to get all girled up for the event.

To put the cherry on top of the already perfect scoop of fashion ice cream, I found out Gretchen Rossi, my favorite of the Real Housewives of Orange County was going to be there as well.  You could feel the excitement as soon as the valet drove away in my Rav4 (mom car).  We were suddenly getting whisked away to new world even if just for the night. Right away, BAM, the pink carpet  shot for photographers. Such a fun moment!  Once in the ethereally lit fashion tent, it was hard to contain my giggles.  Wine? Why yes, thank you.  Hor’dourves? Maybe just a few.  Wait, is that my friend Ginger? Looks like she’s having fun with her mom and her girlfriends.  I think I’ll go give her a hug.  The show starts with the extremely charming Slade Smiley, the beautiful Hasti, and the brave, funny, and very heartfelt stories from 3 amazing cancer survivors.

There was even beautiful dancing, celebrating life and hope.    The fashions were both edgy and wearable.  Even the men’s fashions wowed.  I’m still trying to justify one of the Betsy Johnson black and white party dresses.  The show ended with beautiful Gretchen dressed in almost a retro/bridal glam look, holding hands, together, in the air with the three strong fighters who showed us all what’s in for fall….HOPE.

P.S.  My mammogram is scheduled for Oct.12.  Like they say, “Here’s to more birthdays.”
