It’s that time of year again when the fog rolls in and we all start craving all things warm and comforting. And it is agreeable that instant ramen bowls get old, very fast. Most of us are definitely looking for a healthier option that is reasonable. That’s why shabu shabu or hot pot, is my go to! It’s healthy, filling and a little fun. Lucky for us, San Francisco has numerous shabu shabu restaurants to choose from. Most of you can find one right in your very own neighborhood. I found one just down the street from my apartment that always hits the spot. G Cube Cafe off of Taraval Street and 27th Street serves up some awesome portions for just around fifteen bucks!

Millworks shop-in-shop at HD Buttercups
For anyone who resolved to give their home a little facelift this year, the new millworks shop-in-shop at HD Buttercup’s Townsend Street location is a weapon against dreary deign. The brand’s playful patterns and exuberant colors echo the trend from the spring 2012 runways.
Botanically inspired, by both “overlooked” plants including weeds and wild flowers, as well as floral favorites, like dahlias and peonies, the pillows are 100% cotton with 95% feather 5% down filling and all made with eco-friendly water based inks (except the metallic linen pillows, which are 100% linen). All products are made in California and individually hand printed. Over-sized pillows range from $58 to $78, duvet covers are $230 for a king, with sham sets priced at $75.

The seasons are changing and it’s starting to get chilly! So what sounds better than piping hot ramen on a foggy Bay day for under 10 bucks? I had a serious craving for some comfort food and found my way to a relatively new ramen joint on Taraval Street. Ramen Doraku is the place to go for some quick, satisfying Japanese ramen. It’s hard to miss the the giant red torii, or gate with dozens of wooden pallets inscribed with Japanese characters that actually reads their menu!

Most people would agree that the best restaurants they’ve been to are family-owned. If given the choice, who wouldn’t want a home-cooked feast? In my endless search for awesome Asian cuisine in the city, a craving for Thai food really got me digging. I wanted to find somewhere quaint and simple. Nothing too fancy or hip. I eventually found exactly what I was looking for. Hidden on a small strip of shops and cafes in the Inner Richmond is Tawan’s Thai Food. This place is a gem! A very cozy, teenie weenie gem.

This past week I’ve stumbled upon a restaurant that has become a monumental part of my life in San Francisco. I’ve found it guys. I have found that sushi restaurant that leaves behind all that fancy stuff and takes good ingredients back to the basics. Yum Yum Fish on Irving St. can be quite a trek for the most of us, but it’s a trek worth taking. Trust me. Before we look at Yum Yum Fish as a restaurant, it’s actually a fresh fish market. They just happen to have a small menu of a few rolls and sushi bowls. They also make sushi with whatever they have that day. I remember the first time I walked into a Brandy Melville store in Santa Monica–mostly because I was pretty close to freaking out. It was almost sensory overload because every single thing I looked at I wanted. Lust at fist sight is what I like to call it. A huge selection of the most creative Logo shirts, beautiful and edgy over sized pieces was all within a few inches of my hands. When you think of enjoying a Vietnamese sandwich in San Francisco, more often than not you would think of heading to the pleasantly fierce streets of the Tenderloin. It’s a well known fact that the TL treats us to the best that Vietnamese cuisine has to offer. However a little shop in the sunny Castro district has been building up a pretty impressive reputation. Just off of Market Street, Dinosaurs serves bánh mì that would easily compete with the best places that preceded it. Not only have I heard about this place from more than a few of my friends, it’s become one of S.F. Yelper’s go-to place for bánh mì made with the freshest ingredients.
