A Simple Bracelet Trio

13-e1314457735539
I’m a bracelet hound. I wear too many at once. But I love them all. Sometimes I want something really sweet and simple. So I came up with this sweet trio. I used a cream colored string for all of them. For the first one I got one of these S shaped hooks. Hook it on one end then tie a knot to connect the string. You want it fairly fitted to your wrist. Done. How easy is that? For the second one, I got some silver glass beads and put them on the string and tied a knot at each end. Then make two slip knots on the back side so you can adjust it to get it on and off. For the third one I used my Chan Luu inspired tutorial to in the same beads and string. There you have it! A very simple, slightly naive look that is too easy not to do! _    _    _ Don’t forget to ent [...] Continue reading →

DIY Braided Necklace

I love the mixing of textures. This simple necklace brings a few different textures together for a great little layering necklace. It’s so easy I feel silly showing you step by step photographs Start with some fabric pieces. I chose grey jersey, this brown/gold metallic then a piece of thin gold metal. Pin the end together and pin it somewhere so you can braid it. Here’s how mine came out. To close it I sewed the ends together then wrapped it with a piece of jersey so you wouldn’t see the seam. Here it is completed! I think it would look great with a long simple dress and some added gold chains. So easy to make and you can make a bunch of different color combination or make it long or shorter. Enjoy! [...] Continue reading →

Bold Leather Flower Belt Tutorial

lex top
I’ve been so inspired by these gorgeous belts I’ve seen this year. marc jacobs although this is a cuff, it was one of my inspirations asos So when I decided to do a belt as a tutorial, I posted it on FB and a reader suggested using recycled leather and I thought it was genius! So in my weekly trip to the thrift store I found this deep eggplant leather skirt. My first step was taking the skirt apart. You can do it with scissors or a seam ripper.  Then make a template of the belt shape you want to cut out. I made mine as shown out of pattern paper. You can use regular paper, cloth, whatever you have. Next, lie it out on your leather and trace it. Cut it out. If you don’t have a sewing machine you can just stop here. This belt will look great even as one piece. But if [...] Continue reading →

Hardware Store Necklace

I was really inspired by a couple of these necklaces that I had seen on the runways this year.   After taking a closer look at them I knew I could make something similar. Here’s what you’ll need from your local hardware store: -varying sized washers -bike chain -gold metal wire I also needed extra gold chain. You can use anything you have laying around or get some at the craft store. Also, some ribbon. First, tie a ribbon to make your bike chain connect. This will be the strong base of your necklace. Next, get your washers. Spray them gold on both sides. Now, attach a piece of your chain to the bike chain and begin stringing the washers by wrapping around them once. Do different spacings, different lengths, all the while attaching the chain back and forth with your g [...] Continue reading →

Lace Gloves Tutorial

Screen shot 2011-03-22 at 8.11.58 AM
There are so many cute lace gloves popping up. Chanel always has their great  versions. Here’s an easy way to do your own. You need stretch lace to get the best fit. You could definitely go get stretch lace at a fabric store, but it’s not easy to find. My trick: That’s right. Lace socks or tights or something stretchy. These are really inexpensive, too and there are so many varieties!  You can also use any other stretchy lace item you have around. For this tutorial I used a lace top that I had gotten but never used. I cut off  the sleeve at the length I wanted the glove. Then you can try on the glove to see where your thumb hits. Put the seam of the sleeve or the tights on the inner part of the arm so it won’t show on the outside. (note: if you are using the [...] Continue reading →
