ShopSavvy: Helping You Save Both Time and Money

Screen Shot 2012-03-22 at 8.07.49 PM
The warm weather of summer is just around the corner, which means that now is the time to hit the stores and replace your winter coats, jackets and jumpers. Unfortunately, however, the changing of the seasons doesn’t automatically increase your level of disposable income, and this can leave  you and your fellow consumers searching high and low for bargains. Thanks to ShopSavvy, you can now source the seasonal clothing that you want at the lowest possible market price, and make your purchases while on the go. In effect, it allows you to search for the very best price possible on any item of clothing that you want, simply by using the camera on your smartphone to scan the bar code. The ShopSavvy app then compares prices across different stores and deliver the information straight to [...] Continue reading →

So your kid made you angry again. But who owns the problem? And what can you do about it?

It sounds so simple doesn’t it? Life’s puzzles are often simple, but seldom easy.  The truth is the beginning isn’t always easy to know. Is it your own childhood? Your parent’s childhoods? Does the beginning for the human beings you are trying to raise start in parts destined to stay unknown? I will say over and over again that there is only one person on the planet that you can control. No, it’s not your children, partner or parents…it is you. So since we each consider ourselves, often unconsciously, the center of the universe, you might as well always begin with you. Since we inevitably parent and teach who we are, one of the greatest gifts we can give others is to truly know who we are. To strive to consciously choose when who we are is serving us and others, and when it is [...] Continue reading →

“My Son Hits Instead of Using His Words”

Screen Shot 2012-03-12 at 10.02.49 PM
Hi january, I’ve got my hands full once again here, as if I ever didn’t. Joe’s really stirring up the stuff the past two weeks. Physical stuff, all out tantrums. He’s not able to get through conflicts with his peers without getting physical, and it’s a constant. At least once a day there’s a conflict where he finds the need to use his body to settle the issue. On a rough day it’s several episodes. Like today he picked a two year old to take issue with at the library over a block toy! He didn’t hit her but started pushing her hands a way and began to yell. He looked like he was heading towards pushing but I intervened quickly. We tried to work it out with all the tools I’ve learned thus far but he was having none of that two year old tak [...] Continue reading →

Black Dress S.O.S.

lbdDM0903_468x342
I have been very inspired by the shows at Paris Fashion Week and have been unwittingly integrating some of the looks from next season into my daily looks each day. It’s not such a stretch for me to wear a black dress every day, but I’ve been pairing this basic with the loud jewel tones and primary colors like those seen at Balenciaga and Vionnet. While we won’t be able to get our hands on these clothes for quite some time, I’ve been scouring the dregs of the current fall/winter collections (and looking for sales while I’m at it) for similar to perk up my usual gloomy black wardrobe. As the spring collections amble to stores, it’s easy to find brightly colored accessories. I would match just about anything with this Alexander McQueen dress from net-a-porter. To dress it up as a [...] Continue reading →

On a Budget: The 24 hour Dress!

Screen Shot 2012-03-06 at 11.45.33 PM
I don’t why I didn’t think of writing this blog sooner. I’m always asked what I swear by, and what items are staple pieces for me. So I decided to share some of my budget friendly finds with you. My first must have is the Rachel Roy 24 hour dress. The concept of the dress is that it can function all day! Wear it in the morning with a cami, work appropriate shoes, and a blazer for the office. Switch the blazer out for an over sized cardigan if you’re running errands, or with the kids. When 5 o’clock hits, upgrade the flats out for some heels, and throw on some jewelry and meet friends for a drink. If you’re having a late night, lose the cami, plung the neckline, and throw on your highest heels and no one would know it’s the same dress you wore to [...] Continue reading →
