Spring Break Must Haves!

Screen Shot 2012-03-14 at 12.50.09 AM
We recently visited Stanford Shopping Center with a $50 gift card to see what we thought the must have item was for Spring break! Well there was one problem–we couldn’t just pick one item. So we decided to give you the 101 on what you must have for Spring break when it comes to beauty. We found lots of great items at Sephora, Bare Escentuals, and MAC at Bloomingdales! Our first pick is a natural bronzer! We fell in love with “The Skinny Dip” at Bare Escentuals–so Spring break, right? It’s meant to give you a “light tan”, and it really delivers. $24 Our Second pick can be found at the MAC Counter at Bloomingdales. We chose a light, natural, fun color called “Lustrewhite”. It’s a clear white shade, that just adds the right am [...] Continue reading →

“My Son Hits Instead of Using His Words”

Screen Shot 2012-03-12 at 10.02.49 PM
Hi january, I’ve got my hands full once again here, as if I ever didn’t. Joe’s really stirring up the stuff the past two weeks. Physical stuff, all out tantrums. He’s not able to get through conflicts with his peers without getting physical, and it’s a constant. At least once a day there’s a conflict where he finds the need to use his body to settle the issue. On a rough day it’s several episodes. Like today he picked a two year old to take issue with at the library over a block toy! He didn’t hit her but started pushing her hands a way and began to yell. He looked like he was heading towards pushing but I intervened quickly. We tried to work it out with all the tools I’ve learned thus far but he was having none of that two year old tak [...] Continue reading →

We recently had the chance to check out one of the newest Restaurants to hit the Bay Area–ORYZA Bistro Asiana at Westfield Valley Fair. ORYZA is a contemporary Thai & Pan Asian Restaurante. Oryza Bistro Asiana serves delicious, beautiful, Southeast Asian cuisine in a hip, modern setting perfect for a date, a girls or guys night out, or a visit with the family. We started off the meal with the Coconut Lemongrass Seafood Soup. On the menu it’s described as: “A light coconut soup with salmon, shrimp, fish, Yukon Gold Potatoes and onion, flavored with lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime leaves.” The soup was definitely light, and very refreshing. There were big pieces of fresh seafood in the soup, and the portion was huge–which we noticed was a trend as [...] Continue reading →

Grégoire 2109 Cedar St Berkeley, CA 94709Grégoire www.gregoirerestaurant.com Everyone craves fast food once in while. When we think of fast food we don’t really think of fancy places or top notch ingredients. But who says it can’t be gourmet? A quaint take-out spot in Berkeley says it can be! This past weekend me and my boyfriend took a mini-vacation to Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto, a.k.a North Shattuck. As we walked to our hotel we saw a little spot that caught our eye. I’m really glad we decided to check it out because I will return whenever I’m back in the area. Just off of Shattuck and Cedar is Grégoire. It’s pretty small and could easily be missed if it weren’t for the constant buzz of hungry customers. As we walked into the spot we immed [...] Continue reading →

Opera San Jose – ‘La Traviata’

latraviata
A famed courtesan, glamorous, yet fragile. It is 1889 Paris and the celebrated Violetta Valéry has thrown a lavish party where she meets the young admirer Alfredo Germont. He has long loved her, and she is so taken with his sincerity that she abandons her life of luxury and retreats to the country to be with him. But when met with the disapproving eye of Alfredo’s father, Violetta regrettably agrees to end the affair and go back to Paris. A jealous Alfredo denounces her, but when he learns of her sacrifice he returns to beg her forgiveness, only to discover she has but moments to live. Verdi’s romantic tragedy La traviata is overflowing with some of the most unforgettable music in all of opera. His melodies, rich in passion and drama, made him the master of his time and this legenda [...] Continue reading →
