How to Guide: Professional Attire
Professional clothing is a difficult task to tackle for women. For a man, it’s pretty simple–you wear a suit. But for a woman, it is not that easy. It is difficult to find items that look both attractive and stylish, while being affordable and appropriate. I have seen some pretty bad things in my days working in an office. Whether it be saggy slacks, running shoes, or a frumpy suit, I’ve seen it all. I’ve even seen the occasional Guess boustier on “casual” Friday.
Here are some tips that will help you to create a closet to fit the working woman:
First, find slacks that fit you. Slacks should be straight, not tapered. Please avoid pleats at all costs. Your slacks should fit you at the waist, and should not go above your waist line (unless you’re goi [...] Continue reading →
On Defining Your Personal Style
Personal style is an amorphous term. I am not exactly sure what it means, but I’ve heard that I have it, and I’m not exactly sure how that happened. My theory is that it comes from a history of making fashion mistakes, making them loudly and in public, and recognizing what fashion works for me. Defining one’s personal style can be a challenge, but I believe there are three easy style marks that can set you on your way.
#1 Define your color palette. I have determined that the colors that I love are largely blacks and neutrals with pops of warm tones. This has come from a lifetime of trying to wear valley girl neons, or the era of living in my favorite color, purple. Find pictures of yourself that you find particularly flattering. What colors were you wearing, not only in your attire b [...] Continue reading →
Summer Scarf Dreaming
I am on an accessories mission. I need, with all of my body and soul, a summer scarf or two that will transition my daytime looks into easy and chic nighttime wear. There’s something about a wrapped scarf and a sock bun that just screams “easygoing chic.” I can’t wait for the hot days of summer, and for drinking mojitos on the waterfront. I’ll be wearing one of these (or maybe all of them at once, Grey Gardens- style):
Hazy Days of Summer Scarf
Aviary Scarf
NATIVE LUREX TASSEL SCARF
Hand Dyed Aqua Scarf from Oh Suzanni
Paisley is gearing up to be the new hot print. You will want to get in early on this one:
J Crew Jakes London Paisley Scarf
This one looks like it was directly taken off of a hip art gallery’s walls:
Alice & Olivia Love Print Scarf

Million Dollar Quartet – Broadway San Jose
On December 4, 1956, one man brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together for the first and only time. His name is Sam Phillips. The place was Sun Records. That night they made rock ‘n’ roll history.
Million Dollar Quartet relives this historical moment, giving the audience a chance to witness what happened on that infamous day. Many of us have imagined what it would be like to attend a concert and see one of these legends live, let alone all four in one place at one time. The Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of the day that by some sheer act of fate, Cash, Perkins, Lewis, and Presley gathered together with Sam Phillips, the man responsible for discovering and launching each of their careers. Although we will never have the opportunity of se [...] Continue reading →

Pastels for a Non-Pastel World
While lots of my favorite neutrals rocked the spring runways, the pastel trend is certainly resonating at retail. I had my doubts about whether I could pull off such a sweet feminine trend or if I would have to appreciate it from afar, and then I saw this skirt in real life:
IRREGULAR FINE PLEATED SHORT SKIRT
The woman wearing it had paired it with black footless tights, a body conscious black sweater, and amazing sandals; a great way to wear a trend when it needs a bit of anchoring in reality. She looked like she was about to spring into a ballet rehearsal in the middle of the street, but like she could easily be meeting friends for brunch as well. Don’t you love looks that serve multiple duties?
I looked for other pieces I could match with my neutral and black basics. Essentially if it [...] Continue reading →
Purist Boutique San Francisco/Website launch contest
Originally from San Jose California, Purist Boutique opened it’s doors back in 2007. Since then the store grew into one of Bay Area’s strongest presence for carrying an extraordinary collection of rare and hard to find items. In almost 5 years, owner Kevin Lee, managed to obtain the brands he long desired and created a store unique to his peers. The store is known for carrying brands such as Original Fake, Nexus VII, Bedwin, Futura Laboratories, Comme Des Garcons Play and recently they obtain UK known Bespoke brand Tricker’s and Thom Browne. With new brands, and a new image, Kevin Lee made the decision to move to San Francisco and chose a structure suited to his vision.
After finding the new location, it was only a matter of time that they revamp their website [...] Continue reading →
