3
It’s the Holidays and that means lots of shopping for us! We’re getting Christmas presents, picking up Fall Fashion items and looking to share more and more gift ideas with you all through out the next few weeks. So when we received $200 from Stanford Shopping Center to check out their stores, deals, steals and fashions we had to say yes! First of all we were totally blown away with all the changes! Did you know there is an Urban Outfitters there now–amongst tons of other new stores. We also fell in LOVE with the Ann Taylor store–chandeliers anyone? We found a couple of amazing finds that we’re excited to share with you! But first we had to give you a peek into the new Ann Taylor store. We totally recommend going in when you’re in the area. Besides ca [...] Continue reading →

Opera San Jose- Pagliacci & La Voix Humaine

Screen Shot 2011-11-16 at 8.05.00 AM
On Saturday evening, Opera San Jose continued its season with a powerful double-bill performance of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Poulenc’s La voix humaine. I have wanted to see Pagliacci for years, and ever since Opera San Jose announced their 2011-2012 season, have been counting the days till opening night. Opening night was finally here and the California Theatre was packed with young and old anticipating a wonderful evening at the opera. We took our seats and waited for the curtain to go up for the French monodrama La voix humaine. A one-act opera with one character, La voix humaine is the story of a young woman whose lover of 5 years has left her for another woman and she is having one final conversation with him. An agonizing phone call, their conversation is interrupted numerous t [...] Continue reading →

Marc Cohn at Yoshi’s San Francisco

marc
On Tuesday evening, fans gathered at Yoshi’s in San Francisco to hear the soulful music of artist Marc Cohn. This was the first time I had attended a concert at this venue, and found Yoshi’s to be one of the best locations for a show that I had visited. Effortless parking, spacious seating, and excellent cuisine made Yoshi’s a memorable setting for a relaxing evening. Breaking away from the band, Cohn sang with only his guitarist Shane Fontayne for this very intimate performance. The night began with some of Cohn’s classic numbers, like “Perfect Love,” a song about his brother and the innocence and thrill associated with young love. Other songs from the set included “29 Ways,” a rendition of Willie Dixon’s 1956 original. This is the only cover song Cohn produced prior to [...] Continue reading →

SJMADE with SJEATS at San Pedro Square Market

top
I don’t know about you, but when something new and exciting arrives in San Jose I can’t help but get a little pumped. I attended the sign lightning last Friday night for the new to downtown San Jose, San Pedro Square Market. It’s a huge location filled with nooks and cranies ranging from 1,000 sq ft to a day-use table, all designed for locals to sell their goods in. Currently the bar is open and a few other eateries and merchants. But before the grand opening in October, SJ Made, SJ Eats, and TheUsuals SanJose have decided to host an event this weekend at the Market while there are still plenty of vacancies. What better way to utilize this space than with pop-up shops and food trucks? It’s going to be major! 7 N. San Pedro Street, Downtown San Jose. Saturday, September 17, 11a-7p S [...] Continue reading →

FIRST FRIDAY Art Walk

street
It is Friday evening and the workweek is over. What next? See a movie? Meet some friends for dinner? Catch up on laundry? How about something new and out of the ordinary? This is exactly what locals are doing every first Friday of the month at San Jose’s own South FIRST FRIDAYS Art Walk. Unlike a typical Friday, San Jose’s art walk is a great way to indulge in street fare, interact with local artists and listen to new tunes you can’t find on the radio. I recommend beginning your creative adventure by getting a bite to eat at one of the local food trucks. Although a follower on Twitter, I have never had the chance to actually try MogoBBQ. Obviously I had not checked into Twitter that evening because I was overly excited when I stumbled on their food truck parked near the stage. Per M [...] Continue reading →

Mozart’s Idomeneo at Opera San Jose

Screen Shot 2011-09-12 at 11.10.15 PM
The theatre was packed for opening night of Opera San Jose’s Idomeneo, re di Creta, Mozart’s first dramatic masterpiece. Idomeneo, an Italian opera, tells the mythical story of Idomeneo, the king of Crete, and the tragedy that befalls him following his victory at the Trojan War. To save his life from death at the hands of the sea, Idomeneo vows to Neptune to sacrifice the first person he sees on shore if spared. However, Idomeneo never imagines that the first person he comes across will be his own son, Idamante. The story continues to build as Idamante falls in love with Ilia, daughter of the king of Troy, even given the history between their people. As the opera comes to a close, we learn that in the end, love conquers all. With a cast o [...] Continue reading →
