Interview: John Heringer – Fast Action Training
Mode Bay Area has had the pleasure of working with local fitness guru John Heringer of FAST ACTION TRAINING. What’s more, yours truly is not only a casual bystander of the weight loss bootcamp, but an active participant as well! I recently had the chance to sit down with John and get a little background on him, the program, and the weight loss industry in general. I’m including a video which will actually be part of a 5 question series of questions and answers between us. Enjoy!

Go Local! Go Rickshaw!
Nowadays it seems that everywhere you look, there is the push to go local. And while the emphasis seems to be on food and produce – here at MODE we say, take it one step further, you guessed it – local fashion.
Allow me to introduce to some, and re-introduce to others: Rickshaw Bagworks.
Located locally in the bay area, Rickshaw makes a product that caters almost every field of work, and life. Whether you’re a busy on the go mom or dad, or an aspiring professional – Rickshaw’s vast array of product and customization seems to fit the bill across all needs and uses.
We recently had the chance to get our hands on a new favorite from Rickshaw – the Skinny Commuter Backpack
When it comes to function, this bag is amazing. Boasting weather resistant fabric both inside and out, w [...] Continue reading →
Jean Paul Gaultier’s Brilliant Exam Result
It felt a tad like an exam test Wednesday, July 6, when Jean Paul Gaultier presented his first haute couture collection since the acquisition of his fashion house from Hermes by Spain’s Puig family in a $45 million deal in May.
Gaultier was busy on two fronts, also launching his latest men’s scent, Kokorico, right after the show in a nearby theatre. By buying Gaultier, the Puigs significantly boosted their standing in the perfume sector, where the Catalan clan already controls Nina Ricci, Carolina Herrera and Paco Rabanne.
Evidently unburdened by what was apparently a fraught few final years of partnership with Hermes, Gaultier was an in ebullient mood, sending out 60 looks all centered on the theme of ballet.
With looks with names like Black Swan, Triple Pirouette or Swan La [...] Continue reading →

80+ Inexpensive or Free Summer Activities for Kids
by Crystal on May 22, 2011
I recently asked my readers to share a solution or resource they would like me to help them find. My friend Kim left a comment stating she needs a list of fun and inexpensive things to do this summer… so, I came up with a list. Since the list is so long, I broke it up into easy categories. If there is a link included for one of the activities, click-through because it is a tutorial to show you how to do it. There are over 80 mommy solutions here! Enjoy!
Go:
Go to the library once a week. Check out books, join story time, see if there is a reading club you can participate in.
Go camping. Front yard, back yard, in the living room, or make it a weekend trip in another town.
Go to your local re [...] Continue reading →
The Comfort of Consistency
Consistency: The Key to Well-Behaved Children
What does “consistency” mean?
Consistency means that rules and expectations are the same from one time to another. Consistency makes the child’s world predictable and less confusing. It frees their minds of worry about what might happen and teaches them accountability for their actions.
Why is consistency important?
Consistency gives a child a sense of security. They learn they can rely on their parents and trust that their needs will be met. This helps in the bonding process.
Children with consistent parents experience less anxiety.
Developing a daily routine with regular rising times, bedtimes, after school schedules, and meal times will cultivate a more peaceful home life.
Consistency helps a child develop a sense of res [...] Continue reading →
The Little Mermaid – San Francisco Ballet
MODEbayarea, recently had the privilege of attending another brilliant performance, courtesy of the San Francisco Ballet. The 2011 production of John Neumeier’s The Little Mermaid was both beautiful and entertaining from start to finish.
This was our first experience seeing The Little Mermaid production (my wife and I) and even though we come from vastly different understandings and backgrounds when it comes to dance (she was a dancer growing up – I have two left feet) we were both equally impressed by the set pieces, melodic music accompaniment, and of course breathtaking dancing.
What most people are unaware of is that the original story for The Little Mermaid was actually written as a ballet, and then adapted to various media – the most famous of which is Disney’s 1989 animate [...] Continue reading →
