Ah, fall. After a long, steamy summer, most of us are looking forward to those cooler temperatures almost as much as we’re looking forward to a much needed wardrobe change. Sleek jackets, cozy sweaters, knee-high boots – if you’re anything like me, you’ve been salivating at fall preview catalogs since before the 4th of July. It’s been several months since our first peek at the 2012 lines at the Mercedes-Benz fashion week back in February, and those extra-hot trends are finally becoming the norm in department stores and boutiques all throughout the Bay area. Here are three extra-adorable styles we can’t wait to see on the street.
Off-the-Shoulder Sweater – Last fall’s slouchy sweater silhouette is back, but with slight modifications. This season, prepare for wide boat neck and just barely grazing-the-shoulder-bone necklines. Often made from thin or sheer materials, these sweaters can be layered atop thin camisoles or worn completely on their own. Cozy and chic, combine this look with a curve-hugging dark wash jeans and a pair of flat-heeled riding boots.
Bright-Colored Cropped Pants – A leftover from this summer’s obsession with brights, colored cropped pants are becoming a fast favorite for this fall. Combine with sexy stilettos, chunky heels or simple flats, these jewel-toned pants look radiant against the golden-orange backdrop of the season. Thanks to show-stopping shades, these pants can be paired with simple, neutral-colored tops without losing a bit of luster.
Op Art Patterns – This Spring and Summer we saw chevrons-a-plenty, but this fall it’s all about the optic print. Lots of brightly colored geometric blocks, psychedelic swirls and funky black-and-white zig-zags take us back to grade school optical illusion tricks – but with a fashionable touch. Wear as a skirt, blouse or jewelry – but never more than one piece at a time. After all, wearing too many of these mesmerizingly busy patterns could send your coworkers into an epileptic seizure.
