Lea Michele’s Orange & Grey Dress at The Paris Fall 2012 Versace Show

I have a confession to make. I’m currently having a serious summer fling with colorblocking. I’ve traded in my boring blacks in favor of mixing bright oranges, pinks, blues and more – It’s like I’ve given my wardrobe anti-depressants and the excitement and possibilities are endless! But come Fall I fear that I will once again turn back to the dark side, where mixing orange and hot pink is a thing only seen on South Beach. But, today I have found hope in the oddest place…

While I’m not much of a Gleek, star Lea Michele made me sing my own little song by pairing bright and neutral in this fabulous little sheath dress and grey platform, and it’s great inspiration on how colorblock will work in late summer and fall. Take your bright, bold colors and mix in a neutral like grey or tan to cool down the look a bit. Also, instead of wearing light chiffon fabrics, try a thicker fabric with more straight lines, like Lea’s sheath. Mixing in cool metallics, animal print and suede shoes will round out the look.

What is the grander lesson in all of this, you ask (okay, well maybe you didn’t ask)? Good singing cannot be taught, but fashion sense can be.
