OLD FILM FOR THE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Pro

Post Processing your photos has become a huge part of being a photographer.  You’ll have your reasons to tweak your photos, whether you’re an amateur or professional photographer.  Photography can be strenuous work and there will be times a photographer forgets to change their settings.  There are a lot of variables to take into account when shooting.  Sometimes, we forget these variables, which gives us the reason to make the correction after via Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, etc.

Of course the main goal as a photographer is to shoot a photo without the need to post process, but in a digital aged, you can’t mimic photo results similar to Film cameras. That is until recently I stumbled upon VSCO FILM.  which is an application that changes your RAW files into old film.

I’m not exactly sure what you call a “post processing genius” but it doesn’t take a genius to use the application.  Visuals Supply Co. has 3 different software packages which you can purchase. Each package is compatible with your Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw.  I happen to be a Nikon user, so of course, I choose the Nikon Pro package for Lightroom.  The application is super easy to use and you can easily play with a combination of presets to mimic the perfect film look of your liking.

Pictured below are a couple of test shots with the preset combination I used to create the post-process images.  Left picture is the original RAW file and the right is used with  VSCO FILM .  Each image only took minutes to process.  Heard of instagram? it’s just as easy as that!

  1. Even with a non supported camera (rebel Xsi) I’m really happy with the results I get. So much faster than actions in Photoshop!

Got something to say? Go for it!
