It’s no secret the Bay Area is home to high-quality seafood and numerous restaurants that serve it. The only thing is that most of the time they can be pretty pricey or not have those simple dishes you crave. However, a little bustling seafood joint on the corner of Market Street and 14th serves up the perfect variety of dishes you’d ever want. At Woodhouse Fish Co. they serve chowder, oysters, delectable melts and a cioppino to die for.

When we arrived at the restaurant we were starving and couldn’t wait to dig into our much anticipated meal. The menu is pretty simple but you’ll want to eat everything on it. We decided to start with the crispy calamari since we wanted something yummy and fried. I was really surprised with this dish! It was actually really really good. It was nothing like boring calamari every other restaurant serves. The portion was huge! The calamari was fried to a crisp and came with a good mix of squid legs and body. The calamari was accompanied with fresh lemon wedges, cocktail sauce and a creamy house tater sauce. I was a huge fan of this. As we devoured the calamari, our fun beverages arrived at the table. They’ve got these awesome DIY drinks. Pretty cool. I got the DIY lemonade and the boyfriend got the DIY Arnold Palmer. They both come with freshly squeezed lemon juice on ice. The lemonade came with a side of sparkling water and a little jar of syrup. The Arnold Palmer came with the same but the sparkling water was subbed with iced tea. To be honest it was a little hard to get the taste I wanted but it was still very refreshing nonetheless.

For our main course I decided to go with the split-top Maine lobster roll. My boyfriend had trouble choosing so our wonderful waiter suggested the cioppino. My lobster roll was served with slaw and some good fries. With their lobster roll (and dungeness crab roll) you’ve got the option of getting a small roll or a large. I went with the small which is about $17. You might think it’s a little much for a sandwich right? But this thing is loaded with chunks of fresh lobster meat. I even found a couple pieces of lobster claw meat which is my favorite! Besides the yummy lobster, the best part of my roll was the bread. I’m not really sure what kind of roll it was but it was buttered and toasted perfectly. I definitely cleaned my plate. As for the cioppino, this is the show stopper. If you love all kinds of seafood and live in San Francisco, you will love this. Woodhouse’s cioppino is the epitome of a hearty seafood stew that you want during our extra-foggy days. This dish is served in a huge bowl with garlic bread for you to dip in it. It comes with stewed clams, mussels, cod, squid in herb-ful tomato bisque. It comes with all of that and is also topped with fresh crab meat. Every restaurant has a dish that makes you drool, and this is definitely it, so don’t skip it. We also got a side of sauteed veggies since I was feeling guilty about eating not eating my vegetables. This side was also a nice little surprise! It’s an assortment of fresh veggies tossed in some olive oil and garlic. I’d skip onion rings and go with these (okay, maybe not every time but you get it).

Woodhouse Fish Co. should be your go-to seafood stop. It’s super convenient and has reasonable prices. Oh! And did I mention they’ve got $1 oysters on Tuesdays? Yup. One dollar per oyster. If you plan to hit up this deal, be sure to head over for an early dinner. It’s a small space and is known to get quite crowded. They’re open everyday from around noon to 9:30 p.m. and later on weekends.
