Molly Ringwald is Bringing Pretty Back

We all know her, grew up with her, followed her and the Brat Pack, and watched all her iconic movies: Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. What we may not have known is that she writes too! Getting the Pretty Back: Friendship, Family, and Finding the Perfect Lipstick is a girls guide to life, created to help you find your pretty, it also chronicles her ups and downs, a couple of beauty fumbles, and raising kids. She is out to show that women can overcome obstacles and feel their prettiest (inside and out) doing so.

Mode Bay Area had the the pleasure of meeting Molly at Benefit Cosmetics Boutique Chestnut location in San Francisco on June 14. There were treats to be had, bottles of Rose to be shared, Molly’s favorite Benefit products to be applied and books to be signed! (Much to my dismay, no dancing in the library.)

At the event Molly opened up about raising twins (as her young daughter put it best, ”just awful!”), a brief blonde phase (to find out if they had more fun, she just found out it takes longer to put on makeup) and of course some beauty mishaps. She admitted to dropping her eyelash curler on her hot rollers, forgetting about it and then vaporising her eyelashes. She sounded genuinely puzzled that no one else had done this. Another Molly trade tip: never shave your eyebrows, she waited three grueling months for them to grow back, but “they were never the same.”

She was as pretty as ever, and not even wearing pink! Must have been the new book confidence. When I asked her about any future in writing, she hinted that she is actually working on her second book as we speak, coyly adding that it wont be anything like the first.

All in all, lots of fun and Molly looked great. I walked out of Benefit, thrust my fist into the air and stood statuesque while the first few bars of Don’t You Forget About Me played in my head.
