Welcome to Steeler nation! Within seconds of stepping into this homey neighborhood spot, you’ll get the hint that Steelers are number one here. The place is covered in Steelers memorabilia, to the last inch. They’ve got bobble-heads, framed photos, and one of their logos is actually the Steelers logo. Not a Steelers fans? I’d suggest you stick around, ignore the decor and dive into their delicious dishes. My first experience at Giordano’s was during the Super Bowl. I went with the boyfriend and friends to watch the Steelers play, and boy was that an experience I will never forget. The entire restaurant, inside and out, was packed with die-hard Steelers fans. I don’t watch football, or sports nonetheless, but I had a great time. Giordano’s seems to be the place where ex-Pittsburghers gather to get their football fix and chow on their ridiculously good sandwiches.

Apparently these sandwiches are traditional to Pittsburgh, like the way mama makes them. I’ve never been to Pittsburgh, so I wouldn’t know. But what I do know is that everybody needs to get to Giordano’s and try their sandwiches! They aren’t really easy to come by anywhere else. These sandwiches come with your choice of any typical Italian sandwich meat (like coppa, italians sausage, pastrami, steak, salami. You get it), fries, and slaw. The fries and slaw are INSIDE the sandwich. Brilliant! You’d think fries in a sandwich would be somewhat of a starch overload. Nope, they work in every single way. So far I’ve tried the hot italian sausage sandwich and hot capicola sandwich. Both were awesome. I also get them with a fried egg on top. To die for! Not only are their sandwiches great, pretty much everything on the menu hits the spot! I’m going to go as far as saying they have the best buffalo wings I’ve eaten in San Francisco. The wings are first deep fried to perfection and tossed in a tangy buffalo sauce that’s got the right amount of spice. When I get a craving for wings, Giordano’s wings are the ones I dream about. The last time I went for lunch the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. They were baking their “all-in-one” cookie. Being fresh out of the oven I couldn’t resist but get one, or two… This cookie is made with oatmeal, chocolate chips and rice krispies. It was a perfect ending to my very satisfying meal.

Giordano’s is much more than a simple sandwich place. It’s a gathering place for people who want to have a good time and enjoy good quality food. They’ve got a bunch of plasmas showing sports, I’m guessing for all hours of the day. Their bar is perfect to pop into for a beer after work. It’s a great place for the family too. They’ve also got an awesome staff who always make sure you’ve got everything you need. Don’t hesitate to ask them for anything, like mounds of napkins, which I did. They even do a great job giving back to our community. They often feature live bands to help support good local music. Lastly, I just found out they were named the Official Steeler Bar of San Francisco by the Pittsburgh City Council in 2009. Pretty cool!

Got something to say? Go for it!
