This week I had a friend visiting from SoCal and she wanted me to take her to an awesome breakfast place. Of course Toast was the first place that popped into my head! I work a couple shop fronts down from the one in Noe Valley, so I’m quite a frequent. Since she was staying by Union Square I was positive she hadn’t experienced this neck of the city. If you’ve been to Noe Valley, particularly 24th Street, you know how freaking adorable it is. And if you haven’t, I suggest fixing that by exploring this neighborhood full of babies, puppies, and cute boutiques.
Toast is a pretty standard diner, complete with breakfast, lunch and dinner. The thing that sets them about from the rest is their customer service and consistency. I’m always happy with my meal when I eat there. Always! I’ve yet to be disappointed. I’ve only had breakfast there but the constant bustle coming from inside Toast definitely shows it’s a great place for any meal of the day. I’m absolutely obsessed with the breakfast burrito. It’s massive and probably weighs as much as a new born baby. For under ten bucks you get scrambled eggs, bacon or ham (but you’d obviously get bacon), sour cream, salsa, cheddar and practically half an avocado wrapped in a nicely wrapped tortilla package. Not only do you get this burrito, but you get a side of Toast’s signature hash browns. Even if you don’t like hash browns, you will like these. Plus you can’t really escape them since they accompany most breakfast dishes.
This time I decided to give my predictable order a rest and try something new! My second favorite breakfast dish is eggs benedict. I tried it and I liked it. It wasn’t amazing, but for how simple the dish is, it’s pretty darn good! I subbed the canadian bacon for REAL bacon. I must have bacon with my breakfast to consider it a success. My friends got the belgian waffles which smelled heavenly. One of them was so excited she ditched her utensils and dived into those Nutella covered strawberries. If you’re looking for a little healthier approach, I suggest trying the hash brown hill. It’s those yummy hash browns topped with cheddar, sour cream, olives, green onions, and again practically half an avocado. It’s simply, filling, and guilt-free.
If you’re in the area I’d skip Whole Foods’ not-so-hot hot food and cross the street to Toast. The waiters here are great and you won’t be left waiting for you food. Even if it’s not for a meal, grab a couple cupcakes and watch the sports headline. This place is great when you just don’t know where to go because they’ve got everything that will hit any spot!
