Lex Tassels Tutorial

preface

One of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2011 is tassels. They’re on everything from jewelry and shoes to bags ands belts. It’s a great way to update your accessories. I used this colorboard as the inspiration for my tassels.

I went to my local leather store and grabbed a bunch of leather scraps. I got a big bag for $20, so they’re pretty cheap. If you can’t find a leather store near you, you can always go to a thrift store for old leather goods you can take apart and use.
Take a strip of leather and begin cutting it into small strips. The length is your own preference.
Cut up a good amount, depending on the thickness you want for your tassel.
Now that you have the actual tassel pieces, cut a small strip to bind them together.
Also, cut a strip that will be used to hang the tassel.
With the binding strip on the bottom, put your hanging piece and the tassel pieces all together.
With hot glue, glue it in place, then tightly wrap it up as you continue to glue it.
Here’s how it will look!
Add a decorative bead at the top to accent it. You can use ALL sorts of different beads to add to it even more!
They’re so easy that you can make many of them in no time.
You can add them on a bag…
…a leopard clutch…
…a belt…
…or hang them on a necklace.
Tassels are a great way to add Springs hottest colors to your wardrobe! Hope you enjoy!
