For awhile, San Jose had an emptiness when it came to finding culture and music hand in hand.   You would either find one element or the other but having both Music and Culture altogehter was hard to find in San Jose’s night life. So many of the local citizens would venture to other places to get their fixed on finding a place that catered their needs.  I myself would drive down San Francisco to experience great music and an amazing atmosphere.  There were so many humors of having a great venue opening only to find out that the City declined the proposal.  There was a point that I was excited to see a sign in Downtown San Jose showing that there was a huge chance that they may open a “House Of Blues”.  Then I found out that the city changed their mind and decided to open a Ross on that same location (Huge upset).

Recently I been attending a venue located at the Fairmont Plaza Hotel called “Live @ The Pagoda“.  There I experienced a night filled with eclectic music and a room filled with interesting people.  It was a venue that satisfied my hunger for music and at the same time they represented a culture that San Jose needed.  The venue was 21 and over but being there, age did not matter.  I saw many young individuals appreciating music that captivated an older generation.  Then I saw an older crowd that somehow was wrap inside the music that they were listening to that it became their own fountain of youth.  Each night I attended the venue, it was like being there for the first time.  The promoters, New Sense and Ungrammar seem to have a nitched for finding talent and I can see why they decided to team up to create this great venue.  Perhaps there is some hope in San Jose to find a night life my age group could appreciate.  There were so many of us that thought music and culture was dead but it seems it was there living inside the Fairmont Hotel.   Night life is great again in San Jose.

  1. Downtown San Jose is such a great place! I used to work downtown and I miss the daily experience. So great to hear about new venues opening up, especially somewhere classy like the Fairmont. (TF)

I’ve never really done night life in San Jose even though I’ve lived right in this area most my life. This however, sounds like a great time and a great date night with my husband. I will give this a looksie! Thanks! [TF]

Got something to say? Go for it!
