So you’re taking off for Valley Fair in 20 and haven’t had a bite yet? Put that granola bar away, a real cheri can make this work (and have enough time to put your face on), after all you’re going to need that energy for carrying around those shopping bags!
Before your final application of mascara, slice a tablespoon of butter in half. Dice one half and leave the other, put both in the freezer for 10 mins. Meanwhile, put an omelet pan on low heat w/ a tablespoon of oil.
Apply blush and bronzer. Maybe swap shoes. Now, back into the kitchen, whisk 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk together 80 times in a bowl. 80 times will blend the egg yolk and white perfectly to achieve that monochromatic golden omelet look. Dice up a few chives or whatever herbs/veggies you dig, and shred a bit of Gruyere (or any cheese leftover in your fridge will work). Wipe any remaining oil from your pan with a napkin.
Has it been 10 min? Take your butter out of the freezer and put the undiced half in the pan, reserving the diced for the egg mixture. Pour the egg/butter mixture into the pan, turn up the heat to med-low. Grab a pair of chopsticks and stir (scramble) for 45 seconds. Immediately take off burner, spread the egg to cover the bottom of the pan, and top with the cheese and herbs/veggies. Cover with a lid for 3 mins. The eggs will cook themselves.
Go ahead and top off your lipstick with some gloss. Uncover omelet and carefully slide onto a plate with a napkin. Ever so slowly, begin rolling your omelet using the napkin. (I’ve attached a video of this process. If you thought the perfect omelet required a Cordon Bleu class, au contraire!)
Viola! Instant omelet and makeup application in under 15 minutes! You will be amazed at how perfect this omelet looks, and hey you don’t look too bad either. Cooking, beauty, shopping, Tres Chic.
And that’s all my French! Big tip of the hat to America’s Test Kitchen, my favorite no-nonsense cooking show. Here’s that video from ATK to help you get the perfect omelet fold.
