According to leading color guide Pantone–Honeysuckle is the new color for 2011. Yup you read right. The bright, loud, happy, vibrant pink is the color of the year in 2011. And to be honest with you, I’m slightly scared. I’m actually happy for everyone else. I know most people will look beautiful in this shade. The “mother” tone has a red hue which gives it a great base that will look good with most skin tones, hair colors, and features.
So you may be wondering where does my anxiety come in? My anxiety comes when I look at my wardrobe. I love black when it comes to my wardrobe–and recently I have incorporated creams and some muted greens. I love monochromatic neutral tones that are classic and can last decades.
But don’t get me wrong, I love fashion trends and eagerly await their arrival each season! I find a way to bring them into my life but I prefer the muted ones over the loud ones. With that being said I felt like I need to share my thoughts with Honeysuckle in an open letter.
“Dear Honeysuckle,
It is with hesitation that I welcome you to 2011. I hear you’re quite popular already, and I’ve seen you gracing the covers of multiple magazines and taking over the accessories departments. I am a firm believer of being honest, so I have to let you know that I would have been happier had you been nude, black, gray or chocolate.
But nonetheless you are here, and you are here to stay. You will be at every corner when I shop, and I will have little choice when it comes to taking you home. But it will be a gradual slow process. One that will require many trips to the dressing you, and hours of trial and error when it comes to makeup. I won’t put you on my eye lids, but I will happily wear you on my nails.
I think I actually will prefer you my feet, lips, arms, or ears. Like an exclamation point at the end of a sentence. If I get brave I’ll wear you on my hips.
I will pick you up for my sons, and husband. Because I believe that a man in pink tones is quite the head turner.
So I will learn to love you. And you in return must learn to love all that is me. Black, nude, and all that’s “classic” and borderline boring.
Love,
Hasti

I’m the same way …. what usually catches my interest when I go shopping are the “monochromatic neutral tones that are classic and can last decades.”… Change is hard lol…
