Return of the Kitten Heel

As fall emerges, many of us are on the prowl for that perfect shoe for the season. While there are many to choose, from thigh high boots to fold over booties, consider a kitten heel. The kitten heel, coming in at 3 inches and smaller are back  just in time to save your feet from the sky-high heels and wedges you’ve been wearing out this summer.

Valentino Kitten heel

This trend has pawed runways for the past month, with selections from many designers.  Now, there will always be people who think that anything less than a 5-inch heel is child’s play. But here in the Bay Area, I find many fashionistas choose California comfort over stiletto pain. I’ve always been a fan of comfortable, effortless fashion—and if your heel is giving you a limp, it’s hard not to look like you’re trying too hard.

Beyond comfort, it’s versatile. If you’re like me, your closet is full of heels 3 inches and taller and a slew of flats. What I’m finding is that the kitten heel fills a fashion void between these options. I have a few kitten heels which are perfect for those days at work when you want to look professional, without the discomfort or sudden height boost that comes with pumps. The kitten heel also walks the line between dressy and casual, effortlessly taking your look from day to night. Just think, you won’t be carrying around an extra pair of shoes in your car or purse for a quick change.

If you still think kitten heels are for Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri, take a look for yourself, and just try it–you never know! I’ve found some beautiful kitten heels that will add some fun to your wardrobe. Bows are a huge trend as well as leopard print, pointy toe, suede, red and anything daring (i.e. the purple double bow Miu Miu kitten heel).

Still not convinced? Seriously, can you resist a Valentino in any shape, form or style? I didn’t think so!
