Long, beautiful, luxurious hair is something each one of us desires as women, but something few can achieve naturally. We’re envious of the gorgeous locks of the singers and actresses we see on the covers of magazines and on the big screen. Truth is, most often, their hair isn’t real. As much as I wish it would, my hair just does not grow. Over the years, I have tried each and every type of hair extension method available to mask my short hair. Glue-in extensions were my first, and I loved them…for the first week. After that, the strips would peel off, and I would have to glue them down over and over again. Somehow it never registered that I was piling clumps of glue into my hair. Once a month had passed, and it was time to take the extensions out, it took over 3 hours to remove the glue from my hair. I had to soak my hair in oil and cholesterol, and then comb out as much of the glue as I could. I was left with clumps of glue that came out over the next few weeks, a great amount of hair pulled out, and a massive headache for days. Needless to say, it was not a good idea.
While I had a disastrous experience with the glue-in extensions, I still could not relent my need for long hair. I decided to try weave-in extensions. First, the pain involved with weaves is excruciating, and you can forget about taking a normal shower. The worst part about these extensions is when your hair starts growing out. You hair needs the space to grow, and without it, turns into a huge knot. That is what happened to me, and once again, I was left with less hair than I started with.
The next method I tried was the metal fusion extensions. The process involved numerous strands of hair being connected to my head using metal bonds. Having all of that metal in your hair is heavy and uncomfortable. With a process that look so long and was rather pricey, I expected much better results. Not only did the extensions look unnatural, every time I brushed my hair, 3 or 4 pieces would fall out. After just a couple weeks, I didn’t have any more strands left.
Ever since that time, I have been using clip-in extensions. I would be touching my head all the time, afraid that my tracks were showing. While they looked good, they never felt like my own hair. Yes, they were heavy and uncomfortable, but I just did not know what else to use.
