YSL Cruise 2010

For this season’s cruise collection, Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati was feeling mollusk-minded.

Nearly every one of his 35-pieces was based on the notion of the shell. Some of the references were obvious such as the mother-of-pearl necklaces and a silk chiffon dress (with cutout shoulders) done in a junonia shell print.

Other tributes were more subtle and figured into the cut and drape of a skirt, such as the jade one seen right. It’s meant to embody a shell’s circular form and soft, rounded edges.

Beach combers be warned: The clothes don’t hit stores until October.
