Fun, Organic, Cheap–Dry Hair Treatment!

Head on over to any grocer that carries an ethnic food selection, and pick up a carton of unsweetened coconut milk. This is all you will need for this amazing treatment! You can pick up any brand as long as it’s not “light”, “flavored”, or “sweetened.” Look on the back if there is more than one choice and go with the one that has the highest fat content for best results. Even if you’re tempted to pick up a real fresh coconut for a total organic experience-please don’t. Trust me, I tried it! You’ll spend at least 1/2 an hour washing pieces of the coconut from your hair (and you’ll still miss some.)

When I first discovered this treatment I remember it stating that you should cut the corner of the carton off, and leave it in the fridge overnight. I tried the coconut milk treatment once without doing this and it was a mess. Make sure you don’t skip this step like I did, and leave it in the fridge overnight. This will cause the water to evaporate, and give you a jelly like substance which makes application a lot easier.

Rub the evaporated coconut milk into your dry unwashed hair. I’d recommend using an old shirt, or towel as it will still drip on you. Once your hair is completely covered, throw on a shower cap and you’re good to go. At this point you can either blow dry your hair for about 1/2 an hour, or leave it on with no heat for 1-2 hours. I personally like to leave it on for about an hour, and give it heat for about 5 minutes every 20 minutes. Next, rinse the coconut milk out of your hair till the water is clear. Follow with your regular shampoo, and a light conditioner.

Dry and style hair. You’ll be able to see and feel the difference immediately. During the Summer months, with swimming and the heat I’d recommend doing this once a week, and every other week in the colder seasons. You’ll notice your hair will shine, and feel incredibly soft!

I can’t wait to hear your experiences. This has been a great hair treatment for me, and as always it’s just a suggestion that I love and am sharing :)
