There are a ton of reasons hair can become dried out. There are ones we all know about, like your hair’s natural tendencies, or my favorite as a veteran hairdresser–letting your boyfriend give you highlights and having to get it fixed. Lots of things can make hair dry, and cause static and frizz. But the good news is that a lot of the static can be controlled with a few simple tips!
First off all, having the right product is beyond important to keeping hair nice throughout the day. A little shine serum can go a long way towards keeping your hair from frizzing up! My favorite is a combination of Redken Rough Paste and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum mixed together. A little of this cocktail rubbed together in the palm and spread all over is perfect for finishing off your hair once it’s styled.
The second thing that can really dry out hair is the type of color you use to dye it. Unfortunately many at home box dyes contain harsh peroxides and lack the conditioning treatments that professional products contain. Even if they have conditioners in them, they aren’t the same quality as what you get in a professional tube of color. Which is only to be expected. You get what you pay for when it comes to hair dye! Even in the case of an emergency don’t give in to the temptation at the drug store! Hairdressers are trained for hours to see how different color lines affect different hair types and shades. It’s a complex art. Leave formulation to the experts.
The third factor and the one I think is the most important in figuring out what is drying your hair out is the type of shampoo and conditioner you use. It’s best to invest! Don’t spend $100 on your color and $2 on shampoo. You’ll be throwing the $100 down the drain as your cheap shampoo strips the color out of your hair and fries your ends. Get big bottles of professional grade shampoo and conditioner and you won’t regret it. The good stuff goes on sale constantly and a liter of shampoo lasts the average person 6 months. It’s also more concentrated than the cheap stuff so it lasts longer. The brand Matrix makes really excellent inexpensive hair products that can be purchased just about anywhere these days. For frizzy hair I recommend Sleek Look I have been using it for years with no complaints.
Bottom line: Good hair isn’t going to come to you magically. Yelp yourself a good hairdresser and hang on to her. Let her whip you into shape even if it’s 2 times a year. And for crying out loud stop using crap shampoo!

I completely agree about spending so much on your hair and then using cheap shampoo. That's a big no no! I love Bumble and Bumble products! I think it's good to try different products and see what works best for your hair. (MaY)
Thanks for these ideas for dry hair! I am going to try them! My hair feels like straw a lot of day..
I think I have flat ironed it too much (MAY)
I don't really notice that my hair is dry, I have never dyed my hair and rarely flat iron, but I do have a major problem with flyaways and frizz. That's where I need to invest in qualit product. everything I've tried stops working by the time i'm in my car . . . (MAY)
